Eligibility

Senior Project Associate (2 posts, Pune):

  • Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Science and Technology, Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Computer Science or Computer Applications; OR Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in any field, Computer Science or IT
  • Four years of experience in Computer Science or similar field, or in handling atmospheric science instruments
  • Desirable: web and mobile app development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP/Python, Android/iOS, MySQL/PostgreSQL, Git), OR atmospheric instrument handling, MATLAB/Python/FORTRAN, GrADS/NCL/CDO, NetCDF/HDF/GRIB data and Linux administration

Project Associate II (Mahabaleshwar/Pune):

  • B.E./B.Tech in Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation, EEE or Mechanical Engineering; OR Master's in Physics, Instrumentation, Electronics, Meteorology, Remote Sensing or Atmospheric Science
  • 2 years of experience in atmospheric/lightning studies or a relevant field
  • Desirable: instrument operation and calibration, MATLAB/Python, lightning detection and thunderstorm simulation experience

Project Associate II (Alwar, Post Code Alwar2026-001, 1 post):

  • Bachelor's in Engineering/Technology; OR Master's in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Atmospheric Sciences, Climate Science, Environmental Sciences or Geophysics
  • Two years of work experience in Earth, atmospheric or environmental sciences
  • Desirable: project coordination, drafting proposals and progress reports, project documentation

Project Associate I (Chennai, Tezpur, Pune, COPE, RSPCB):

  • Master's in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Applied Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, Oceanography, Statistics, Climate Science, Data Science, Environmental Sciences, Agrometeorology, Agronomy or Geophysics; OR Bachelor's in Engineering/Technology (Civil, Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical, E&TC, Computer Science, AI & ML)
  • COPE2026-001: Master's in Science with Computer Science, or B.Tech/BE in Computer/IT; web development skills desirable
  • COPE2026-002 and RSPCB2026-001: Master's in Chemistry, Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, Environmental Science etc., or Bachelor's in Engineering/Technology; WRF/WRF-Chem and atmospheric chemistry instrument experience desirable

Technical Assistant (Bhopal/Pune):

  • Bachelor's in Science (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Computers); OR 3-year diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication or Computer Science engineering
  • Desirable: instrument maintenance and calibration, Fortran/Matlab/Python; or BLIS with 2 years library experience; or computer degree/diploma with 1 year experience; or skills in video editing, photography, CorelDraw, Photoshop, LibSys/Koha

Project Assistant (Chennai/Pune/Guwahati) and Field/Laboratory Assistant (Chennai/Guwahati/Delhi):

  • 3-year diploma in Engineering and Technology (Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication, Computer Science, Mechanical, Civil or related); OR Bachelor's in Science (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Instrumentation, Data Science, Applied Physics, Electronics or related)
  • Desirable: Master's degree, weather instrument handling (AWS, radar, wind profiler), Fortran/Python/C programming

Important notes

General Guidelines

  1. Appointment is purely temporary and short-term, up to 31.03.2027 or till the project ends, whichever is earlier. For COPE, Alwar and RSPCB projects the initial tenure is one year or till the project ends.
  2. Extension is subject to satisfactory performance.
  3. Place of posting can be anywhere in India and is transferable.
  4. Number of vacancies may change depending on project needs.
  5. The Competent Authority can end the appointment with one month's notice without giving a reason.

Selection and Test Rules

  1. Only candidates who meet the eligibility should attend with the filled proforma.
  2. The written exam result is declared the same day; qualified candidates then appear for the skill test after document verification.
  3. The exam scheme for Technical Assistant, Field/Laboratory Assistant and Project Assistant is on the Institute website.
  4. Not producing original certificates during the test, skill test or joining leads to disqualification.

Rights of the Institute

  1. The Director may choose to fill or not fill the posts without giving reasons.
  2. The Director may cancel the recruitment at any stage.
  3. The selected candidate may need to join immediately after being found medically fit.

Travel

  1. No TA/DA is paid for the walk-in interview. For SC/ST candidates, TA/DA is considered as per Government of India orders.
